It is essential that all senior students and their parents complete the FAFSA, as it is required by colleges and universities in determining financial aid awards including grants, federally subsidized student loans, and work study opportunities. Even if you feel your family earns too much money to qualify for federal aid, you should still fill out the FAFSA. You may be surprised to learn that your student may qualify for some sort of assistance.
The FAFSA for students entering college in Fall 2012 cannot be completed prior to January 1, 2012. However, you may complete the FAFSA forecaster located on the FAFSA website to get an estimate of what financial aid you may be eligible for.
Access the FAFSA application online at
www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Medina ISD will be hosting a financial aid night on Monday, February 20, 2012, at 6 PM, in the high school computer lab to assist families with filling out the FAFSA. That date will be posted soon.
To complete the FAFSA this spring, families will need the following information:
1. Correct SS# and birth dates of the student and the parents
2. Completed 2011 tax returns (all pages) for parents and student (if student filed).
3. All 2011 W-2's for parents and student (if student worked)
4. Rough estimate on total assets and banking amounts (i.e.: land
value, amounts in checking, savings, etc)
